Bat-like wings beat against the darkness of night as the great god of death descends from the dark sky. 
Ryuk’s wicked will has claimed another victim from the human world of the living. What began only as his own boredom has erupted into an all out war between those who have possession of the death note and those who do not. His grim visage is a sinister sight to behold, and those few humans that do are generally met with a great misfortune.
For those who believe they may be strong enough to match his dark greatness, here are what may be the steps to unlocking Ryuk’s unholy power.
1) Show interest in tales of the strange and occult. Ryuk found humans to be a fascinating species of creatures as if they were his playthings.
2) Carry yourself with a slightly hunched gait at times. As a supernatural creature, Ryuk always had a certain way of walking.
3) Develop a fondness for apples. Ryuk nearly has an addiction to what might be termed his favorite fruit.
4) Be sure to read the Death Note manga. It was here that Ryuk first dropped the Death Note into the human world, even before its arrival in the anime.
5) Develop a characteristic laugh. The Shinigami Ryuk always made a ‘Hyuk’ sound when he cackled.
6) Examine conflicts without taking sides in them. Technically, Ryuk was never even on Light Yagami’s side throughout all of Death Note. Instead, he served as an observer.
7) Wear studded belts and accessories. Though Ryuk does not wear clothing in conventional sense, his garments are generally a black material emblazoned with silver looking studs.
8) Take a laid back approach to series matters. Ryuk is calm in the face of even the worst acts of death and destruction.
9) You may wish to experiment with some forms of apathy. An apathetic outlook was always an important part of how Ryuk saw the world.
10) Watch the Death Note anime series. It is here that Ryuk truly comes alive…at least, as alive as a Shinigami may ever be.
11) Stand back whenever there is action between two individuals. Ryuk was most comfortable being an observer in any significant happenings. He would rather have seen history than make it.
12) Interject curiosity into your actions, as Ryuk was never fearful of experimenting with something or attempting to try something new.
13) Work on your flexibility. Ryuk is able to stretch himself into positions unachievable by mere mortal humans.
14) Surround yourself with as many Death Note related products as possible. Wall scrolls, figures, Ryuk photo frames, and other accessories will serve as a grim reminder of your new dark persona.
15) Be able to adapt to new situations, considering the fact that Ryuk is never the same throughout the adventure of Death Note.
