He is a ghostly figure who is a mere specter of the life that his own existence mocks. One of the strongest of the vaporous espada, his ethereal survival comes at the cost of other souls scattered across the battlefields on which he engages the forces of the Soul Reapers and their allies. He is a powerful force to be reckoned with, and one whose reign of terror shows no signs of slowing down.
Espada #4 Ulquiorra
There are those fans of the Bleach series that have cried out with hunger for the knowledge of how they might walk the same path as their dark leader. For those who wish to be like Ulquiorra, these following steps might unlock the secrets to doing so. But beware for there is no turning back once you have tasted the forbidden fruit of the espada!
1) Ulquiorra is a calculating villain whose skill with a sword matches the skill of his mind. Always keep in mind that the powers of deductive reasoning can eliminate any problems that you might have with Soul Reapers just as well as a sword can.
2) Skepticism is also a very important part of emulating Ulquiorra’s behavior. His philosophies are based strongly in subjective idealism, and it might be best to gather facts on any situation before responding to it.
3) Ulquiorra is an analytical thinker. Once he is stuck on an idea, he does not let go of it. He correctly estimated the abilities of Orihime Inoue, for instance, upon his first meetings with her.
4) With his treatment of Orihime, it can be assumed that he does not use unnecessary violence, despite being among the Espada. Therefore, always remember that he would not be approving of using the blade over the mind.
5) Ulquiorra is a stoic, and he therefore shows great restraint in his actions. Acting without previous, deliberate thought is not within Ulquiorra’s character. As well as gathering information on a situation, he gives a great deal of thought about how he should respond to it.
6) Most likely stemming from his stoicism, Ulquiorra tends to be one of the most soft-spoken characters in all of Bleach. It would be best to consider one’s responses before speaking.
7) Likewise, Ulquiorra tends to be quite committed to his cause, regardless of the moral implications that might be involved with following Lord Sosuke Aizen. Therefore, devotion and loyalty are also important to his existence.
8) Finally, Ulquiorra seems to believe that life has no real intrinsic value. Of course, it’s not good to have such beliefs in real life, but it may be fun for cosplayers to act out some roles where they have some elements of the extremism known only to followers of Lord Aizen.
9) Cosplayers might also want to try out white robes and cloaks to try and match the style that Ulquiorra usually wears in his immortal combat with the forces of the Soul Society.
10) Ulquiorra has black, tear like streaks descending from his eyes. These can easily be replicated with a makeup pencil.
11) Learn to use a few phrases in Spanish. Both the names for the espada, and the terms they use, are in Spanish, and Tite Kubo has said that he finds the language interesting to use in this capacity.
12) As with all of the various forms of Hollows, Ulquiorra has a mask. His is in the form of a white headress bearing a single horn, and could therefore be imitated by a white helmet in the real world. You might be able to attach one of the horns from a hat used for Viking or Barbarian costumes.
13) With the same helmet set up, you can try to better replicate the partiality of an Arrancar’s mask by carefully cutting it into half so that it doesn’t fully cover your face.
14) Signifying his rank as the Cuarta Espada, Ulquiorra has the number 4 tattooed to his chest, and cosplayers could replicate this with black makeup.
15) Most importantly, surround yourself with as much Bleach gear as possible. From DVDs to graphical novels and wall scrolls, each piece will be a reminder of the new persona that you are working to adapt.
