Do you stop, re-watch, and notice how your favorite anime series has progressed?
During one of the webinars (online seminars) I’ve been attending, the speaker was discussing how we should measure our progress by how far we’ve come instead of how far we have yet to go. People have a tendency to always look forward at what they haven’t done yet instead of taking the time to look back at the progress they’ve made thus far. This tends to lead to a lot of frustration, disappointment, lack of happiness, etc.
That got me thinking about anime ?:-) I’ve been watching Claymore, Bleach and a few other on going animes and I’ve found myself going quickly through each episode (temporarily enjoying them) and then wanting/waiting for the next DVD to be released or for the next episode to air on TV. But after my webinar I realized that during my time of anxiously awaiting for the next episode to become available it would be in my best interest to go back and look at how far each series has progressed since episode 1.
Take Bleach for example. Adult Swim has just finished airing episode 119. I’ve seen 121 episodes of Bleach (with more to come). It’s unreal to me that I’ve watched that many episodes and still love the anime. If and when Adult Swim goes on a “Bleach Break” I will take the time to re-watch the previous episodes and see how much Ichigo and the others have grown over the course of the series instead of cursing Adult Swim for going on a hiatus.
And then there’s Claymore the incredible action-packed anime. I’ve just completed Disc 3: The Hunter is Prey. I can’t wait until [amazon-product text="disc number 4: The Rumors of War " type="text"]B001OMZYFY[/amazon-product] arrive in my mailbox and I’m even more excited because [amazon-product text="Disc 5 Sister in Arms" type="text"]B001US3XSC[/amazon-product] was released on May 19, 2009. In keeping with the theme of looking back at the progress, I’ve decided to do my Anime Walkthrough for this series. It will give me a chance to learn new things I didn’t pick up on during my first watch and I can see how much Clare has changed since scene 1.
I’m starting with Disc 3 and I’m working my way back to disc 1 The Burden of the Blade (to mix is up a bit). I’ll have the preliminary Claymore pages up soon with the walk-through as soon as I can after that.
Take the time to look at your progression. It doesn’t have to be anime/manga. You can apply this to any area of your life. For example, you have more knowledge today then you did yesterday and you even have more knowledge then you had a month ago (cool, huh? Bet you didn’t know you knew so much).
So, take the time and reflect. It will really help you enjoy the present moment whether it be anime, hanging out with family and friends, attending an anime convention, shopping, eating, whatever.
So, do you stop, re-watch, and notice how your favorite anime series has progressed?
No, then I think it’s time you give it a try (I promise it won’t hurt and you’ll probably like it)!
