Scene 3 – Darkness in Paradise (Mahororba no Yami)
A Priest has been found, and his innards have been eaten in the manner that a Yoma slays a human being. Father Vincent, the archpriest of the Cathedral in the town, hosts a meeting and wishes to hire a Claymore. However, the city that Cathedral is located in has banned Claymores from entering.
This city, Rabona, is a holy city and nevertheless sends out a mission to hire a Claymore. Receiving the mission from Ruver, Clare is given pills so that her Yoma powers can die down and her eyes can return to a normal color. This precaution is taken to prevent the citizens from getting upset that a Claymore is within their city. She is also told to make it seem like Raki is her brother.
When they head to the inn, Raki is shocked to find that Clare is acting like a merry human being instead of her stoic self. She tells him that her training allows her to act in many circumstances, and asks if he like to see her act like a prostitute. Embarrassed, he declines. They then enter the Church, which has a rather European sensibility to it.
Clare is questioned as she enters, and she says that she is here to be baptized. As they are in the Church, the remains of what appears to be a Saint disgust Raki. As they are lead to a large chamber, the Priest begins the Baptism ceremony before realizing that Clare is the Claymore that he had posted a mission for in the first place. He tells her that she needs to meet with him at the tallest tower in the evening. However, he warns her that there is the possibility of danger since the nights are ruled under martial law in the city.
Back at the inn, Clare begins to spin a lie that they are traveling while selling their deceased father’s collection off to raise money. She mentions that the statue in the room is the last thing she is selling, and sets the price at ten million. This exorbitant rate shocks the innkeeper. Raki, lying in bed, is said to be suffering from horrible indigestion as he had eaten too much. As the innkeeper leaves, Clare apologies to Raki for having made him eat two meals. However, she tells him that this is part of his job.
At night, Clare meets Father Vincent at the specified place. He promises to pay her a large sum, and tells her everything that has happened inside of the Cathedral. She tells him that he need not worry about money until after the job is done, because money is worthless if she does not live to use it. She asks him to take care of Raki if she should fail, and Father Vincent is impressed with her feelings towards him.
In the next scene, Clare is running on top of the roofs of buildings, where she is struck by three daggers and attacked by a patrolling Knight. Fighting them off, she quickly escapes and they realize she is not a regular human being. At the same time, two knights are killed and gutted at the Cathedral.
It’s the next morning, and Raki awakens, only to find that Clare’s eyes are once again their regular silver color. The two men who engaged Clare the previous evening burst into the room and say they’re Yoma hunting. One grabs her, and sees that her eyes are now brown. He makes a comment they can change the color of their eyes.
Raki bites into the man’s arm, and tells them that his sister is pure of heart. The knight tells his accomplice to forget about them. Raki says to Clare that he was being truthful, but she tells him that believing that she is kind will simply get him hurt in the future.
Clare again meets up with Father Vincent, and warns him that the Yoma they are chasing is possibly a so-called ijoushokuyokusha. These are stronger Yoma with a long life span that need to feed more often than once a week. Clare asks him who’s usually in the inner sanctum of the Cathedral, and she believes she’s overlooked something.
Finding the same two knights as she travels across the roofs once more, she breaks into a small fight with them. They hear a scream at the Cathedral. Clare takes off towards the scream. She feels a great amount of Yoma power. However, she can not discern the location of the Yoma, and it attacks her. The two knights enter, and she tells them to stay back. She is greatly wounded when she throws herself between them and the Yoma.
Clare throws a knife at its eye, and has to continue fighting to save the other two warriors before the Yoma skewers her body and Clare falls limp, held in the air.
