Claymore Scene 6: Teresa and Clare

in Anime Series, Claymore

Scene 6 Teresa and Clare (Teresa to Kurea)

Clare and Teresa stand on a cliff overlook the town of Rokut. Teresa tells Clare that will be in town shortly and there they will find someone to take care of her. Clare is obviously not happy to hear Teresa saying this. Teresa assures her that she will not simply abandon her. She will find someone/someplace safe for her and won’t leave her until then.

That night Clare cries herself to sleep and Teresa starts to walk away. The bandit that had previously assaulted Teresa is back, minus one hand, and once more attempts to jump the Claymore. It is pretty clear that he has it on his mind to rape Teresa. As he tries to overpower Teresa, she is overcome with disgust over the fact that it is for humans like him that she has to keep fighting.

Clare intervenes and tries to strike him with the bough of a tree but the bandit instead starts to beat on the girl. Teresa grabs the bandit’s sword. She is sickeningly reminded by the bandit that she is forbidden from killing human beings and this prompts her to question the rules. In response, she tells him that it is up to her to decide when she wants to break the rules.

The bandit, frightened by Teresa’s bravado, runs off. Clare runs over to Teresa and is finally able to speak. She asks Teresa if she is in pain, and then she says that she has always seen some sort of pain in Teresa’s eyes. It is almost as if Teresa has been wrought with a great deal of loneliness.

Clare believes that Teresa’s pain is totally unbearable. In fact, Teresa understands that Clare’s hugs (from the first moment they met) were actually for Teresa’s sake and not simply to aid or thanks from child. Clare was genuinely concerned about Teresa’s loneliness. Teresa begins to cry as she then hugs Clare.

They make it into town. Teresa has Clare fitted for an outfit. Afterwards Teresa quickly and easily kills a Yoma. A man approaches to give her payment for killing the Yoma. As always she states she can no personally accept the money. She ask the gentleman to look after the Clare.

Clare removes her clothing and starts to pleading with Teresa to take her in. Clare tells Teresa that she doesn’t need fancy clothes she just wants to be with her. Teresa reminds Clare that she is a human and tells her to live as such. However, Teresa is not behaving unkindly in this scene. In fact, her actions seem to be out of genuine concern for the girl.

Another woman comes and tells Clare to put her clothes back and looks as though this woman is going to care for the young girl. Teresa then leaves the town, only to have to return as she notices that bandits have approached the town. It turns out that the Yoma was actually in the town and was kind of a protection for the village. Teresa realizes this and fiercely races back to the town.

The town is now in flames and all the townsmen have been killed. Teresa spots Clare. She is being held hostage by the one arm bandit from earlier. The bandit tells Teresa that he will care for the girl like a pet. He also informs Teresa how much he enjoyed seeing Clare’s vein pop out as she screamed out “Teresa, Teresa” (stupid thing to say one arm bandit). After hearing the bandit, Teresa instantaneously lobs off his remaining hand. She then splits him in two, having recovered Clare. The bandit leader, taunting them, is soon sliced as well, along with the rest of his partners. (guess they shouldn’t have messed with a Claymore or at least heeded Teresa’s warning – stupid bandits).

In the next scene we find a group of Claymores surrounding Teresa, along with her liaison from the organization. It is judgment time for Teresa, death. Teresa understands but wants to know what will happen to Clare. He tells her that Clare is no longer her concern. The Claymores charge at her, ready to take her down, but Teresa, who is overcome with the will to live (mostly because Clare is screaming from the top of her lungs Teresa), instead takes them down. She states that the other Claymores are not injured badly from the wounds she inflicted. She says that they will live and Clare runs to her.

Teresa says that she wants to live for Clare and has now found a reason to live. Her handler says that she’ll regret it. That maybe possible but for now Teresa has no regards staying alive for Clare.

With that, another liaison appears out of Teresa’s sight and says that it’s a terrible thing that the strongest has turned against them. However, Orsey (Teresa’s handler) says that they will send the 2nd to 5th strongest to slay her.
