Scene 7 – The Mark of the Death (Shisha no Rakuin)

Claymores occupy a village that has been overrun with Yoma. Their names are Sophia and Noel. They are having a discussion about who has killed more Yoma. Actually it’s more of an argument and they are fighting over which one of them is actually #3 and #4 within the organization.

It doesn’t seems like this is hardly the time to being disputing it! After all, there are still Yoma in the village that need to be dealt with. However, to settle the fight and blow off some steam, they kill several more Yoma as if it were just part of a sportsman’s competition.

Ilena, another Claymore, comes on scene with a fast slice that swiftly kills two Yoma. She tells them to fight the Yoma and cease the argument amongst themselves. The question of why three Claymores are assigned to the village, which should only really need one, arises. Ilena informs them that their assignment is to kill the #1 ranked fighter Teresa

Noel inquires about the #5 fighter. Sophia replies that the fifth Claymore is Elda but Ilena corrects them since she was just lowered to the third rank. There is a new Claymore who is the second now and this shocks both Sophia and Noel. Nearby, a clumsy Claymore falls to the ground. She is the second ranked Claymore: Priscilla.

In disbelief, Noel draws out her own sword and challenges Priscilla, who says she’s late because she had trouble with her last Yoma. Noel wants a fight and doesn’t trust that a few Yoma could hold the second Claymore back. Upon farther observation, there were more than a few Yoma that held her back, for in her wake of destruction, there were hundreds of Yoma that lay dead on the ground.

She would have had to be fighting in silent for this to turn out the way it did and Sophia can’t believe that at all. Ilena remarks that Priscilla doesn’t use her Yoma power; she simply is able to kill with her own skill. In that respect, she is like Teresa.

The next scene focuses on Teresa talking to Clare about how they are going to rest in town. However, the town they end up in features another Yoma. Teresa quickly takes care of the Yoma and the villagers thank her. As payment for her services, Teresa requests a room for her and Clare to stay for the night.

Sent to an elaborate room, Clare instantly falls asleep in Teresa lap. Teresa soon notices that more Claymores are approaching the town. She tries to hide her Yoma spirit but realized it is futile with warriors of this caliber.

Ilena enter the inn and heads straight for Teresa. She finds Teresa’s room and after politely greeting her, they break into a violent fight.

The ensuing fencing match is too fast for human eyes but the scars on the walls clearly show the effects of their battle. The other 2 Claymores sneak into the room as in an attempt to kill Teresa. Teresa outmaneuvers them all and with Clare in her arms leaps from the window and lands safely on the ground below. As Teresa starts to stand to her feet she notices Priscilla standing behind her. Teresa is surprised because she didn’t sense Priscilla presence. Priscilla reveals to Teresa that she is here to kill her.

After telling Clare to go some place safe, Teresa asks Priscilla why she didn’t kill her when she had the chance. Priscilla says that would have been a cowardly thing to do. She continues by lecturing Teresa for going against the organization. Teresa says that the world isn’t as neat as Priscilla seems to think it is. They fight! As they fight Priscilla starts to get the better of Teresa.

Noel and Ilena think to themselves and talk during the fight, as if they were entertained by it. Ilena asks Noel why she believes Teresa got the name Teresa of the Faint Smile. Noel explains that she is called Teresa of the Faint Smile because of the way she smiles whenever she’s fighting a Yoma. Ilena informs her that they all smile while killing Yoma. Instead, Ilena says that the name comes from the fact that Teresa can sense Yoma aura inside. She also says that Priscilla suppresses her Yoma powers and therefore she is a challenging opponent for Teresa to fight.

Teresa’s attacks have sped up and this fact actually begins to annoy the otherwise strong Priscilla. Priscilla is confused by the fact that Teresa is somewhat stronger, even though she broke the rules of the Organization.

Teresa believes that she has to kill Priscilla now before she becomes more powerful. As she raises her sword, Ilena blocks the attack. The two remaining Claymores jump into the combat zone. Teresa cuts the chest of Sophia and sends Noel falling through the air with one kick. All 4 Claymores surround Teresa. Priscilla protests against the 4 on 1 battle but Ilena tells her to think smart and not let her sense of honor get her killed. She reminds her that Teresa has to be executed.

With the four surrounding her, Priscilla apologizes wishing that she could have fought Teresa by herself and with that they all raise their Yoma auras and the episode ends (It looked like Priscilla released a lot of her Yoma powers).
