Kotomine tells Emiya that he will look into the 8th Servant. As Emiya is heading home he starts to think about Saber and the Holy Grail Wars. He doesn’t want to lose her after the wars are all over because he is in love with her but the only way for Saber to get a second chance at life is for him to force her to drink from the grail.
Back at home, Emiya finally makes up his mind. He decides to take Saber on a date. Of course, Saber has no idea what a date is or what Emiya’s intentions are by taking her on a date so Rin takes it upon herself to explain the situation to Saber. After the explanation, Emiya and Saber go on a pleasant date together.
Saber discovers a lot of new and fascinating things in the present world like movies and underground aquariums. As their date draws to an end Emiya brings up the topic of Saber being a servant and the wish she wants granted. Emiya questions her true reasons for fighting. He believes she doesn’t want to fight at all because people get hurt and/or die and she doesn’t want that to happen but she has no choice but to fight (she’s a Servant). Saber on the other hand has only one wish and that is to redo the king selection. Her unwillingness to understand his reasoning drives Emiya crazy. He goes on to say that she is a brat for wanting to have a “do-over.” He wants her to forget about the person she used to be and be happy as the person she is in the present world. Emiya’s inability to understand her point-of-view saddens and upsets Saber so much so that she proposes that they end their Master, Servant pact immediately. She will go on to fight the others without his assistance. This really gets Emiya angry and he tells Saber to do whatever she wants. She can go fight the other Masters and Servants on her own and he storms off (hmm, just like brat!)
Later that night, Rin informs Emiya that Saber is nowhere to be found. Emiya immediately goes looking for Saber. He finds her on the bridge where they had their little argument earlier. Saber informs him that once he had left, she had all this freedom to do whatever she pleased but she didn’t know what she wanted or what she should do so she stayed at that spot all day just thinking.
Emiya grabs a hold of Saber’s hand and starts to lead her home but their journey gets interrupted by the 8th Servant.
We’ll have to find out what’s really going on with the 8th Servant in Episode 21 The Star of Creation that Divided Heaven and Earth.
