Strait Jacket the Movie for Breakfast

in Anime Series

straitjacket-dvd1

So this morning I decided to watch Strait Jacket while I ate my breakfast. Not a very good move on my part. Really the problem started before the movie even began. It started with the previews. Trailers for Dead Space the show and Dead Space the game were previewed. Way too much blood and gore to see in the morning on an empty stomach. From that moment on my food had a very hard time going down (I’ll admit it . . . I have a semi-weak stomach when it comes to blood, guts, and gore especially when I’m trying to eat while watching these pictures)

So the movie starts and once again I’m faced with more blood and guts (why so much so soon?) The movie is about this guy named Leiot Steinberg who is an unlicensed sorcerist who defeats these ugly things they call demons. Actually, these demons were once ordinary human beings who, after using sorcery for a while or due to a malfunctioning armor suit, turn into unstoppable, yucky, killing demons. (these demons are ugly and oddly shaped)

Strait Jacket reminded me of several Animes like Fullmetal Alchemist because of the alchemy & sorcery, Claymore because of the premise that the fighter will eventually turn into the thing that he is fighting (if you haven’t seen Claymore check it out it’s good, so far . . . I’ve only seen the first disc) and of Trigun just because of the tag-along character who’s trying to make Leiot conform to the rules set forth by the Sorcery Management Bureau like the 2 ladies following Trigun around. It also reminded me of Devil Man Cry because both characters have these small little girls hanging around them all the time. Others say it reminds them of Cowboy Bebop but I haven’t seen Cowboy Bebop to verify if this is true or not.

So overall I liked Strait Jacket but I wished they gave more background information about the main character – Leiot. They tried to introduce snippets of his upbringing but it was a failed attempt (I wanted more!) It felt like a lot of information was trying to be crammed into the 1 hour and 20 something minutes of the movie.

It’s an alright DVD to see if you have nothing else to watch (which I didn’t) I just recommend that if you have a weak stomach don’t watch it while eating breakfast, lunch, dinner, or any snack of food. Other then that enjoy!

Bye-nee!
