Episode 2 on Disc 1 begins with a flashback of Rin when she was a child. Her father is leaving her to go fight in the Holy Grail War, a long standing tradition of her family. We return to the present time. Rin is having tea with Archer and she informs him that she wants to know everything about him like his true name, lineage, and his country’s epic spirit, to determine his true powers and strength so that they can formulate a plan of attack and defense for the Holy Grail War. Unfortunately, for Rin, Archers is unable to provide her this information. His memory is still a little jumbled since being summoned.

Emiya on the other has arrived at school with Sakura and she notices that his hand is bleeding. Emiya plays it off as a scratch he received from one of the devices he has worked on the night before (he really has no clue what’s going on with his hand).

Later that day Emiya, once again, finds himself helping out Issei on another student council broken device. It takes Emiya a while to fix the broken television; the sun has started to go down. As Emiya makes his way to exit the school grounds he runs into Sakura’s brother Shinji Matou. Shinji asks Emiya to clean the dojo on his behave so that he could go out with a group of schoolgirls. Of course, Emiya, being the guy to lean you a helping hand, says yes. No questions asked.

Meanwhile, Rin and Archer sense the presence of an enemy nearby. They too, are hanging around the school grounds waiting for the enemy to reveal himself. The enemy finally does and he and Archer begin to fight near the dojo. The enemies name is Lancer. He and Archer are engaged in a fierce battle and their noise has not gone unnoticed. Emiya goes outside the dojo and sees these two people fighting. (Not a good decision on Emiya’s part). Lancer hears and sees Emiya and starts chasing him through the school building. Eventually, Lancer catches up with Emiya in the hallway and pierces Emiya’s heart with his spear. Rin also eventually arrives at the scene and is surprise to see that it is Emiya that has died as a result of her decision to fight on school grounds. Feeling totally responsible she uses one of her gems to restore Emiya’s life.

Emiya arrives home unclear of what has happened and how he could still be a live. (One of the rules of the Holy Grail War is that all witnesses to a battle must be silenced). It isn’t long before Lancer arrives at Emiya home and starts attacking him (determine kill him completely, this time).

Emiya (somehow) manages to go to the storehouse out back, while there Lancer corners him and it looks like it maybe the end for Emiya but something has happened. While Lancer has Emiya cornered, a symbol is drawn on the floor of Emiya’s hangout and the markings on Emiya’s hand flash quickly and the servant Saber is summoned.
