Lessons Learned While Shopping Online

in General

What do you find annoying and frustrating about shopping online?

Last week, I received an item from a third-party seller on Amazon.com It was the cheapest one available and I was like “what the heck, it’s only a total of $30 with shipping and handling – the average cost is $56 -$102. (Yea, yea I know, if it sounds too good to be true it probably is but I was like how can they go wrong with printer toner, right?)

So last week it comes in (very fast shipping) I put the toner in and get horrible results. The color is not printing correctly. I think to myself “maybe it takes time for the ink to settle in or something so I try a few more print outs and still the prints poorly. Now, I’m really upset.

I decide to contact the seller by email. I am very polite and simply ask what is their return policy because I would like to return the toner, its defective (the return policy is not visible any where). A wait a few days and I get NO response. Now my blood is starting to rise but I still remain calm despite my friends and family telling me that this seller maybe one of those fly by night sellers who take your money and run.

So, I try once again to contact the seller (still remaining friendly) and yet again NO ANSWER! Ugh! Are they ignoring my emails or what? So, I have no other choice but to file a claim with Amazon to get my money back.

So my frustrations steam from:

  1. Lack of communication
  2. Lack of customer service
  3. Defective product

This is the first time I’ve had a problem buying from a third-party seller through Amazon.com

What Have I Learned?
I’ve learned my lesson – I’ll most likely limit my Amazon purchases to products that Amazon sells directly. If I do land on a third party page I will make certain that they have a visible return policy if they don’t I’ll quickly prepare myself for an uphill battle if I have a problem with the product. I’m also keeping in the back of my head the following: “if it sounds too good to be true (price-wise) it probably is because one way or anther it’s going to cost me either time (if it’s defective) and/or money”

What type of frustrations, irritating, and annoying online experiences have you had (and hopefully learned from (it can be anything from anime related purchases to non anime related purchases)?

Here’s your time to vent!

UPDATE (Aprile 20, 2009) Amazon has refunded my money for the defunct toner – Thanks Amazon  and BOO to the bad seller
