Sunday night I watched the Simpsons episode The Good, the Sad and the Drugly (I think overall the series has deteriorated – NE Ways) but I liked the storyline that dealt with Lisa Simpson. I found myself really relating to her situation of becoming overly depressed by world events. Let’s face it, life continues to through us some negative, unpleasant energy which, left unchecked, can lead to some serious depression and very destructive behavior.
In the past I have fallen into the dark cloud of despair (and trust me it’s a horrible place to be) but lately I’ve found my saving grace and it’s in Anime. I started realzing how fortunate I am to be able to work at a place (AnimeJackpot) where I can watch, talk, and surround myself with anime almost 24/7. Whenever I feel the heavy weight of the world (and there is plenty of stuff going on like environmental concerns, the economy, and news in general) that really brings me down I go over to my collection of DVD’s, pop one of my favorite disc in and I’m instantly transported out of this world to another.
Don’t get me wrong. I am not an escapist trying to escape reality (okay maybe a little
) but I need a break from the constant negative energy bombarding me on daily bases (honestly, you can’t turn on the TV without some horrible event taking place). We all need breaks, we’re only human for crying out loud!
Now watching anime and reading manga get me so far into recovering from the onslaught of bad energy. I also keep a journal by my side with a list of positive saying and events that have taken place in my life so that whenever I’m feeling a bit blue I read a few lines, begin to remember the good times and start to reclaim a bit of those good feelings. But my best method of combating the blues is watching anime and reading manga.
And thanks to that Simpsons’ episode, it just help reinforce what I already knew and do.
So what do you do to combat the stress and negative vibes of the world? Does anime/manga help you to get away for awhile or do you have another method to rid yourself of the blues?
Love to hear from you,
T.A.G.
