Traditional Japanese Homes in Anime Series
Traditional Japanese homes in anime offer our main characters the opportunity to have several people over at one time and creates interesting and sometimes challenging situation for our characters (particular if they are male characters). Take Emiya from Fate Stay Night. His father leaves him his estate after his death. It’s a very nice but large home, especially for one person. But notice as soon as Emiya becomes a magus his Japanese home is no longer a huge lonely place to live, it becomes an interesting place with beautiful ladies staying there every night.
And then there is Koukin from Ikki Tousen. He too, lives in a traditional Japanese home all alone but that all quickly changes upon the arrival of Hakufu Sonsaku. He has the zany mother, Aunt Goei and the not bashful about her body, Hakufu living with him. The vibe in his house will never be the same.
Just think, had these characters lived in a one bedroom apartment in the city or someplace else the series would not have been as entertaining. And we wouldn’t have gotten the chance to see the “awkwardness” of our male characters as they “try” to remain gentlemen and not place or make their female roommates feel compromised or embarrass.
So here is my salute to the Japanese traditional homes which have provided our two male characters (and many more) with wonderful opportunities to live with lovely ladies under one roof.
